We believe that it is up to the current generation, our generation to craft solution for our generational problems. To shape urban spaces that are safe and livable.
Years of Experience
In the past three yeas, Youth and Urbanism has been in the frontline working within uban informal settlement with the quest to craft solutions for our generational problems.
At Youth and Urbanism, our core focus in this domain is empowering youth-led urban community development initiatives while amplifying the voices of marginalized groups. By fostering inclusive activities that drive thoughtful urban planning and elevate living standards, we aim to nurture the growth of children and young people in bustling cityscape. Ultimately, we're building safer, more vibrant cities that embrace and uplift the next generation.
Through our dynamic array of activities, we've connected with over 4,000 young trailblazers across more than 10 programs during our strategic period from 2023 to 2025.
In collaboration with esteemed partners like the Embassy of Portugal, Hivos International, WWF, and NCBA Bank, we've spearheaded over 30 transformation environmental initiatives in Mathare Slums throughout this strategic timeframe.
Our mission here is to combat the devastating effects of climate change and deliver swift humanitarian aid to hard-hit communities. By prioritizing resilience and recovery, we safeguard the most vulnerable populations, helping them rebuild stronger amid escalating environmental and humanitarian crises.
Via initiatives like Voices for Just Climate Action and other targeted climate projects, we've executed over 28 locally driven efforts to foster sustainable change.
Our dedicated youth-led humanitarian team has responded to over 72 climate-induced disasters in urban informal settlements, providing critical support where it's needed most.
We champion gender equality by empowering women and girls to thrive, fostering communities where everyone—regardless of gender—can contribute and succeed on equal footing. This commitment drives us to build inclusive spaces that celebrate diversity and unlock potential for all.
The Climate and Care Initiative has proven pivotal, enabling us to engage over 2,700 girls in slum communities through meaningful outreach and empowerment programs.
To weave gender perspectives into all our programming, we've conducted over 138 targeted girls' outreaches, promoting equity at every level.
Safeguarding children's rights is at the heart of our work, ensuring they have unhindered access to education, healthcare, and essential services. By creating nurturing environments, we empower every child to flourish, turning potential into reality in supportive, secure communities.
Our innovative Study Bag Program has led to the creation and distribution of over 1,000 customized bags across more than 10 schools in Nairobi's informal settlements, equipping young learners for success.
Youth and Urbanism has recently launched an Urban Home School initiative, offering flexible at-home learning opportunities and bridging access gaps for children who might otherwise be left behind.
